Turkey: food for two weeks afloat

Göcek · 24 October – around 7 November 2026

A seasonal shopping guide for a small galley, with twelve full recipes in Food: Turkish dishes, modern variations and seafood. Each recipe has core ingredients, optional additions and a simpler version, ready to use at home too.

Shopping, not fishing. Planned for a hob, one pan, one pot and limited fridge space; no oven, grill or sous vide needed. Raw dishes are conditional on a verified supplier and cold storage.

What to look for ashore

Researched 13 October 2026. Listings show a starting point, not live branch stock.

What should be easiest

Plan around çipura (dorada), levrek (sea bass), chilled or frozen shrimp, imported Norwegian salmon, lamb mince and thin-cut lamb. The national retailer lists these categories; exact Göcek branch stock remains unconfirmed.

Late October / early November

Palamut (bonito), bluefish and mackerel appear in the retailer’s autumn guide. Palamut is not the same fish as sashimi tuna. Pomegranate, citrus and walnuts fit the region; add rocket, parsley, cucumbers, yoghurt, white cheese and lavash.

Useful Turkish labels

Kuzu (lamb), dana (beef), kıyma (mince), karides (shrimp), közlenmiş patlıcan (grilled aubergine), süzme yoğurt (strained yoghurt), beyaz peynir (white brined cheese), pul biber (mild red-pepper flakes), nar ekşisi (pomegranate molasses), roka (rocket) and lavaş (thin flatbread). Choose plain grilled aubergine for ali nazik (lamb on aubergine yoghurt), not a ready-seasoned dip unless using the shortcut.
